TV : Heroes in Malaysia - Are You On The List?

Probably anybody who owns a television set (with or without Astro) would've heard about the new hit show Heroes. The series will premiere on Malaysian TV on the 31st of January (Star World) and probably early February on TV3 . But, luckily for some Malaysians with the 'power' to download HDTV quality video files, just hours after the show was aired in the US; Heroes already had become our new favourite show. So in conjuction to the Malaysian premiere of Heroes on TV, here's a little rundown about this wonderful show. Why should you watch it?

I had to admit I was a little bit skeptical about this show when I first read the synopsis. It all sounds like a crap-ass X-Men ripoff. I thought it will be another Mutant-X. But after watching the first episode, I was hooked. Heroes is awesome. It's funny and clever and suspenseful. It has a beautiful multiracial cast, giving the characters emotions so real and recognizable. Its mix of danger, humor, drama, romance and science creates a unique and surprising flavor of programming. At the same time, it fills scene after scene with characters that wouldn't or couldn't easily fit into any other show.

This show had already became a worldwide hit. Even Time Magazine had listed the cast of Heroes on their "People Who Matters 2006" list. So that would definitely be enough reason for you to watch this show. Don't miss it..

Kitaorang (..yeah including u zack) ni torrent-users. Any torrent files available, mmg bleh download. Aku rasa kalau letak firewall, mmg x lepas. Unless kalau architecture kau susun balik. Bagi application server duduk kat depan firewall, than it should be OK..

This is the intro.. I haven't even started on Claire yet.. :)

The writing is terrible, the characters aren't interesting.

But hey, I still haven't given up on the show. I know that it can take a series like this a long time to find its legs. An ensemble show needs a number of hours to shake out which characters are interesting and which actors are good, while science fiction/fantasy shows need time to feel out their universe and solidify their approach. If I had watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer in season one I would have missed a great show, because I would have quit by the fourth week.

And ever since the series creators got rid of the shitty opening and closing voice over, Heroes gave me hope that this show can one day do the same.

"The writing is terrible, the characters aren't interesting."

..well, I don't know about that man. The writing is a little bit offbeat, I have to admit, but that what makes it good. The characters aren't interesting?? Hmmm..

" fiction/fantasy shows need time to feel out their universe and solidify their approach."'re right. I read an interview with Tim Kring on, and the way he describe the whole Heroes storyline and how it would evolve, and how the characters will expand sounded like a saga. He always said that season 1 is all about character detailing. So, there's a whole lot more to Heroes.

For me, watching Heroes is like reading a comic book. I get the same feeling.. I feel like a kid.

    "The characters aren't interesting??"

Yep, ten episodes in and I still don’t care about the characters, and some of them I dislike so much I can’t wait for their portions to be done with*. Most of the other characters are more or less interchangeable outside of their individual circumstances and power gimmicks; most of their dialogue seems to exist only to move forward basic exposition.

    *I'm looking etcha, Ali Larter.

It's weird that Tim Kring said the first season is all about character-detailling. I mean, c'mon, while Hiro has become a favorite thanks to the actor’s enthusiasm and charisma, he’s a blank as a human being. Even spending weeks in the past and falling in love with a doomed girl has had no noticeable effect on him afterwards. That’s a sign of the show’s poor writing, which extends beyond the clunky dialogue – the writers don’t seem interested in changing their characters, or exploring how events on the show affect them. Compare Heroes with Battlestar Galactica, a show borderline obsessed with testing its characters in situations and seeing what changes are wrought.

fuck.. it's that deja-vu thing again. I swear I read those comments before NM..

"..the writers don’t seem interested in changing their characters, or exploring how events on the show affect them."

    - one more time, u got to be super-fucking kidding me..?!

Do u even watch the show? Or are u trying to pull an 'Akmal Abdullah' on me..?

"Do u even watch the show?"

Do YOU even watch the show? Because from my point of view, seems like you guys have been watching different show altogether.

Let me show you how lazy the characters are. Even though the dialogue is exposition-heavy, all that talking isn’t going to move the narrative forward, though, so the writers have resorted to the worst possible gimmicks.

Think about this, they have one character whose ability is to draw the future, and his paintings set much of the story in motion in the beginning. Then they have another character who dreams the future, and his dreams move him forward to meeting with other super-powered people… one of whom is a guy who can travel to and from the future, bringing warnings with him.

Please, think about that. I’m not sure that I have ever seen a narrative so completely relying on fortune telling to move it along almost every single step of the way. It’s lazy, and it turns all of the characters into people who just keep reacting and having revelations, instead of acting and figuring things out.

This is also the reason I quit on Lost, since Desmond also have this annoying precog power.

..acting and figuring things out?? ..a narrative so completely relying on fortune telling to move it?? Funny..

If u gonna copy your comments from, at least copy the ones that are not laughable. Plizz..

(Now that explains the deja-vu thing...)
